As the network scaled, keeping coding accurate and compliant grew harder. Two challenges stood out:
IKS Health began by analyzing the network’s historical coding patterns to identify documentation gaps and the areas that needed intervention. From there, the team established clinician-level benchmarks across coding patterns and ICD-10 capture rates, measured against adjusted national benchmarks so performance could be judged in context. To keep improvement on track, IKS Health built a reporting and governance mechanism that evaluated clinician-level performance after implementation, tracking relative value units per visit, E/M levels, and screenings coded per visit.
The program improved documentation quality, tightened compliance, and recovered revenue the network had been leaving on the table. CDI experts shared regular feedback with physicians, surfacing patterns for documentation improvement, and the resulting gap closures strengthened coding compliance across the network.
